When bottom fishing the boat is anchored in deep water and hooks loaded with lures are dropped to the bottom of the sea. Thus the name bottom fishing.

For trolling fishing the bait used is generally a fishing lure that is drawn on a line through the water slightly below the surface of the water.

Other types of deap sea fishing techniques used are long lining and netting.

With 'long lining' the bait is strung out on a long line held up by buoys. 'Netting' relies on nets which are set in shallow water around the coasts.
